At the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) last November, asTech Mechanical received the prestigious MEMA Business Technology Council’s Innovation Award! This award recognizes companies that are using innovative technology to improve the auto repair process and boost efficiency.

Since December 2024, we’ve experienced an incredible 45% growth, with new shops signing up every day. In that time, we’ve helped these shops solve problems, pair parts, and perform reprogramming more than ever before. Head Scratcher – Troubleshooting a 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500
A shop hit a roadblock while repairing a 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500. After replacing the power steering control module, they couldn’t get the steering angle sensor to calibrate, no matter what they tried.
That’s when they called asTech Mechanical, and our experts got to work. Turns out, this vehicle was Chevrolet’s first Hybrid Silverado (not obvious from the VIN or factory tool), and its high-voltage battery was discharged, preventing proper calibration. Once we identified the issue and got the HV battery back to normal levels, the calibration was a success!
Thanks to asTech Mechanical, the shop avoided major delays and got their customer back on the road.

Meet the Team – Ben Johnson, Vice President, General Automotive Repair Markets
We’re excited to introduce Ben Johnson, the driving force behind the asTech Mechanical vision. With a background that spans from technician to product development, Ben brings a wealth of experience to the team. He started his journey as a technician at a Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and Datsun dealership in Florida, where his passion for cars and problem-solving flourished. After owning his own shop and teaching specialized electronics for GM and local colleges, Ben transitioned to product management, leading the product team at Mitchell1 for over 12 years.
Ben’s move to asTech was driven by the opportunity to apply his expertise to the mechanical repair space. Initially considering retirement, he quickly realized the incredible potential of asTech’s technology and the impact it could have on mechanical shops. Since joining the team, Ben has been instrumental in shaping the future of asTech Mechanical, ensuring it adds value and evolves with the needs of the industry.
