The asTech
Rules Engine
FAQ
If you’ve had questions about the asTech Rules Engine, this is everything you need to know:
What is the Rules Engine?
The asTech Rules Engine is a proprietary database and automotive intelligence tool that identifies the most accurate, efficient and economical scan option for every vehicle
How does this help shops?
The Rules Engine’s data-driven scan verification process gives shops the confidence to know they are selecting the best scan for each vehicle they’re repairing.
What types of scans does the Rules Engine recommend?
The Rules Engine provides two guaranteed accurate diagnostic scan options:
- An authentic remote OEM diagnostic scan through asTech’s patented technology.
- A certified OEM-Compatible scan performed car side. This is a scan that has been verified – through side-by-side testing – to provide results that are equivalent to the authentic OEM tool scan.
What happens when an OEM-Compatible Scan is not available?
When an OEM-Compatible scan isn’t available, the Rules Engine recommends asTech’s remote authentic OEM scan that customers know and trust.
How did asTech Build The Rules Engine? How does it verify OEM-Compatible Scans?
The intelligence powering the Rules Engine was built by performing tens of thousands of vehicle scans against the active car parc to identify which of the top aftermarket scan tools yield the same results as the authentic OEM tools. It’s this testing that allows ONLY asTech to verify when a scan is OEM-Compatible with 100% certainty.
Does The Rules Engine and OEM-Compatible Scans devalue OEM Scans?
On the contrary, The Rules Engine reinforces the importance of OEM scans when needed to properly diagnose the vehicle. In recent case studies we’ve shown that the Rules Engine identifies when OEM scans are required on vehicles where conventional wisdom would dictate an aftermarket scan would suffice. Read our case study on the 2016 Honda Civic.
Does this data exist anywhere else?
The Rules Engine is the most comprehensive dataset for comparison analysis on a global scale and it is continually updated via ongoing research.
Is the Rules Engine exclusive to asTech?
The Rules Engine is patented and proprietary to asTech. It is available exclusively on the asTech All-In-One device.
Can the Rules Engine be customized?
The Rules Engine can be customized to fit the business needs of the shop. Custom rules can be set up for OEM position statements, OEM certifications, shop preference, insurance relations, and more.
How does this work OEM Certifications?
asTech has worked hard to partner with several OEM’s to be an approved tool option within Certified Collision Repair Networks, such as BMW, Nissan, Subaru, Honda, and more. We ensure that our Rules Engine can be customized to fit with these OEM certifications. Our team works with you to understand exactly how you need to operate your business and then customize the rule set of your version of the Rules Engine for those specific needs for each OEM certification.
