asTech Mechanical is Growing

Over the past month, we’ve seen an 18% increase in mechanical shops joining our network, signaling strong interest in remote diagnostic solutions. Even more notable—event volume has jumped by 75% since last month, showing that adoption is quickly turning into real-world engagement. We’re excited by the progress and look forward to continuing to support shops across the mechanical space.

Troubleshooting Toyota/Lexus Radar Module Repairs Made Easy

Those pesky Toyota/Lexus lights on the dash that can seem complicated are no problem for your knowledgeable asTech mechanical experts. We recently assisted a shop that replaced a radar module on a 2022 Toyota RAV4. These vehicles don’t always require a programming event after module replacement. However, we can help with any necessary calibration work following a repair like this.

In this case, the calibration went through without a hitch, but a light on the dash wouldn’t clear: “Pre-Collision System Malfunction. Visit Your Dealer.” Time to put on our diagnostic hats! After running a health check on all the modules in the vehicle, we found a communication fault code stored in several of them. A quick search through TIS revealed the necessary extra step: placing the brake system in dealer mode, which enabled communication between the brake system and the new radar module. This cleared the fault in the Pre-Collision system, as well as the warning light.

“Mission accomplished!” we said. The shop drove the vehicle, confirmed the systems were good to go, and ultimately saved our client both time and the hassle of involving the dealer.

OE-Specified Voltage Environment for Reprogramming

No matter how much vehicle technology evolves, one thing remains critical for successful module reprogramming: a stable voltage environment. Whether you’re using our tool or another solution, maintaining the correct system voltage is key.

Since each automaker specifies its own target voltage range for safe and effective reprogramming, these values aren’t always consistent. In fact, recommended voltages can differ not only between brands but even across models from the same manufacturer.

To help keep your repairs on track, view an updated table of OE-specified voltage requirements for module reprogramming.

DrivenToServe

asTech is proud to announce a partnership with Puget Collision to help Active Military and Veterans pay for vehicle repairs during May’s Military Appreciation Month.

Throughout May, as part of asTech’s ongoing DrivenToServe community impact programming, asTech and Puget Collision have partnered to help active military and veterans afford the rising costs of owning and maintaining a vehicle. We have pledged up to $50,000 which means up to 250 Military families, whether active or retired, can take advantage of this opportunity. View participating shops here.

“Supporting veterans has been a personal and professional priority for decades,” said Craig Edmonds, President of asTech. “As a long-time executive sponsor of veteran-focused employee resource groups, I’m proud to see our commitment extend beyond our walls—empowering veterans both within our organization and in the communities we serve.”

Continuing our support of Military Appreciation Month, asTech sponsored the Defenders of Freedom Gala and Golf Tournament. The gala, celebrating its 20th year, was held on May 17th at the new National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas. The golf tournament was held on Monday, May 19th. Both events raised funds supporting organizations that help post 9/11 veterans transition to civilian life, provide assistance for Traumatic Brain Injury treatment and raise funds for various veteran support programs.

Where to See Us

The momentum continues as we look ahead to key industry events that will help shape the future of asTech Mechanical.

On June 10–11, the asTech Mechanical team will be in Detroit for ETI Tech Week, where we’ll be exploring the latest technologies being introduced by vehicle manufacturers. This event is a critical opportunity for us to stay ahead of the curve—so we’re ready to support our customers as these new vehicles and systems start showing up in your bays.

Then in July, we will attend the ISN Tool Dealer Expo, where we’ll connect with mobile tool jobbers and shop owners to showcase asTech’s capabilities. We’ll be focusing on how we empower shops with access to OE tool functionality—ensuring they’re equipped to handle even the most complex diagnostics and repairs with confidence.

Where We’ve Been

Ben Johnson, our VP of General Automotive Repair Markets, attended the AMRA/MAP Technical Meetings in Chicago in early May, where he presented new industry findings on the need for OE tool access in aftermarket shops. These insights were based on research conducted by Babcox Media and the Auto Care Association. (Spoiler alert: surveys indicated that around 20% of vehicles going through service bays required an OE tool to complete the job.)

From there, our team went on to the Auto Care Association’s Connect event, where Ben participated as a panelist discussing the role of AI in the repair industry and also moderated an Emerging Technologies forum. While at the event, they attended the Car Care Professionals Network—which represents independent garages across the U.S. and Canada—and represented asTech on both the Technology Standards Committee and the Market Intelligence Committee.

Additionally, our team met with Auto-Wares sales professionals to review asTech’s offerings, helping them better educate their shop customers on the benefits of integrating asTech services into their diagnostic platforms.
